Aryabal Temple

The temple complex was constructed between 1998 and 2004 on a beautiful rocky mountainside. It is often referred to as a meditation temple, attracting both pilgrims and travelers seeking peace and reflection.

A stone staircase of 108 + 8 steps leads up to the temple. According to tradition, reciting “Om Mani Padme Hum” while ascending helps purify one’s negative karma step by step. Surrounding the temple are 108 small stupas, along with eight traditional Buddhist offerings and symbolic decorations such as the Soyombo emblem, all enclosed within a sacred compound.

Visitors can walk around the temple’s prayer wheels also numbering 108 and it is believed that spinning them while reciting prayers has the same spiritual merit as chanting the mantra many times.

Travel Tips

Photography:
The most beautiful panoramic shots can be taken from the temple balcony overlooking the Terelj Valley. Capturing the full temple structure from the base of the 108 steps also creates a striking composition, resembling an elephant-shaped formation in the landscape.

Preparation:
Climbing the 108 steps requires a moderate level of physical fitness, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Visitors are also expected to maintain silence and respect those who are meditating inside the temple.

On the way down, visitors can stop by the famous Turtle Rock, enjoy walking along the Terelj River, or experience horseback riding at nearby tourist camps.
