Chinggis Khaan National Museum

The museum officially opened on October 11, 2022, in the capital city of Mongolia. It showcases the political history of Mongolian empires from the Hunnu period to the Bogd Khanate of Mongolia, featuring a collection of around 13,000 artifacts. The museum includes eight permanent and temporary exhibition halls and two ceremonial halls.

The exhibitions present more than 10,000 original artifacts, ranging from the reign of Modun Chanyu, the founder of the Hunnu Empire, to the early 20th century Mongolian nobility and state leaders. These exhibits are enhanced through modern technologies such as augmented reality (AR), QR systems, virtual reality (VR), interactive displays, videos, as well as paintings, drawings, sculptures, metalwork, embroidery, and detailed models.

Travel Tips

Photography:
Photography is restricted or subject to additional fees in certain indoor exhibition areas, so visitors should check museum rules in advance. However, the exterior and rooftop observation deck are excellent locations for capturing panoramic views of central Ulaanbaatar.

Time Planning:
As the museum is large (nine floors), visitors should allocate at least 3–4 hours to explore it properly. Using an audio guide is highly recommended for a deeper understanding of the exhibits.

Located in the very heart of Ulaanbaatar, the museum is within walking distance of major landmarks such as Sukhbaatar Square, the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, and the National Library of Mongolia.
