Location and Geography

Khuvsgul Province is located in northern Mongolia. It borders Russia to the north and Zavkhan, Bulgan, and Arkhangai provinces to the west, east, and south. The province is characterized by mountains, forests, lakes, and river valleys, making it one of Mongolia’s most ecologically diverse regions.

Population and Culture

With a population of approximately 129,000, Khuvsgul is one of Mongolia’s most populous provinces. It is home to six major ethnic groups: Khalkh, Darkhad, Khotgoid, Uriankhai, Buryat, and Tsaatan, making it an important center of cultural diversity. As of the end of 2016, the province had 37,969 households, with 33.5% living in the provincial center, 19.4% in soum centers, and 47.2% in rural areas.
