Menen Steppe

The region is rich in natural grassland vegetation and is home to wildlife such as gazelles, wolves, and other rare species. It is part of the vast eastern Mongolian steppe ecosystem that extends from the volcanic grasslands of the Dariganga region eastward toward the Khalkh River and the Greater Khingan Mountains, reaching the northeastern border of the country.

The steppe is commonly divided into two main areas: the northern Khalkh River steppe and the Tamtsag steppe. The northern Khalkh area is also known for containing the lowest elevation point in Mongolia.

TRAVEL TIPS

Transportation: Although the terrain is flat, heavy rain can make the ground muddy and difficult to pass. A capable off-road vehicle and an experienced driver are strongly recommended.

Navigation: Traveling without GPS or modern navigation tools is risky because the landscape lacks distinct landmarks for orientation.

Environmental protection: To protect the fragile grassland ecosystem and gazelle habitats, visitors should avoid creating new tracks or damaging vegetation.
