Tsagaan Suvarga is a uniquely shaped natural formation located in Olziit soum of Dundgovi Province. It consists of colorful cliff formations created by mineral-rich sediment deposits that were once the seabed of an ancient ocean millions of years ago. From a distance, it resembles the ruins of an ancient city or white stupas, which is why it is named “Tsagaan Suvarga” (White Stupa).
It is an extremely steep cliff located northwest of Del Mountain in Olziit soum of Dundgovi Province. It can be clearly seen from the Nuden Gobi area. Over time, the ancient seabed sediments were eroded by natural forces, forming rugged cliffs and escarpments that appear like glowing white stupas from afar. The formation faces east, and from a distance it can look like buildings or the ruins of a city. From the western side, it appears flat and is not easily visible.
In strong winds, livestock sometimes fall from the cliffs, leading to accidents. The cliff is about 60 meters high and stretches for approximately 400 meters in width. It has nearly vertical 90-degree edges. After rainfall, water flowing down from Tsagaan Suvarga can look like a massive waterfall.
About 7 kilometers east of Tsagaan Suvarga, and around 85 kilometers from Olziit soum center, there is a 50-meter-long cave known as the “Hevtee Bosoo Cave” (Horizontal-Vertical Cave). In some parts you must crawl, while in others you can walk upright, which is why it has this name. There are also three elm trees located south of the cave.
TRAVEL TIPS
