Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall

The waterfall has a vertical drop of approximately 24 meters. Depending on the seasonal water level of the Orkhon River, its width varies between 25 and 50 meters, making it the widest waterfall in Mongolia. Ulaan Tsutgalan is located about 20 km west of the center of Bat-Olzii Soum and attracts thousands of visitors each year with its dramatic scenery and surrounding volcanic landscape.

Travel Tips

Photography:
The waterfall can be photographed from both the top of the canyon and the base, offering two completely different perspectives. On sunny days, the mist often creates beautiful rainbows, making it an ideal moment to capture stunning photographs.

Water Flow & Best Time to Visit:
The volume of water depends largely on seasonal rainfall. During dry periods, the flow is reduced, while visiting after rainfall offers the most powerful and impressive view of the waterfall.

Safety:

The edges of the canyon are steep and can be slippery, so avoid getting too close while taking photos. The staircase leading down to the base of the waterfall is also quite steep, so visitors should walk carefully and wear appropriate footwear.
