Gorkhi-Terelj National Park
One of the most popular destinations for visitors to Mongolia, Terelj National Park is located only 70 km from Ulaanbaatar, accessible via a smooth paved road. The park is famous for its dramatic alpine-like mountains, dense forests, and uniquely shaped granite rock formations.
Key Attractions
Turtle Rock (Melkhii Khad):
A massive rock formation naturally shaped like a turtle, symbolizing the identity of Terelj National Park. Visitors can take photos here and enjoy horseback or camel riding nearby to experience nomadic life.
Ariyabal Meditation Temple:
Located about 3 km from Turtle Rock, this peaceful Buddhist monastery is a favorite destination for those seeking tranquility. The 108 steps leading to the temple symbolize Buddhist spiritual purification. From the top, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the entire Terelj valley.
Nomadic Lifestyle Experience:
Experience traditional Mongolian nomadic life by visiting a herder family. Participate in daily activities such as milking livestock, making dairy products, and herding animals, gaining authentic insight into centuries-old traditions.
Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue Complex (Tsonjin Boldog)
Located 54 km east of Ulaanbaatar, this iconic monument is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest equestrian statue in the world.
Symbol & Architecture
Standing 40 meters tall, the monumental statue of Chinggis Khaan rises at Tsonjin Boldog, the legendary site where he is said to have found a golden whip.
Interior Experience
Inside the base of the statue, visitors will find a museum, restaurant, souvenir shops, and relaxation areas that showcase Mongolian history and culture.
Viewing Platform
Guests can take an elevator or stairs up to the horse’s head, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding steppe and the Tuul River valley.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
We will begin our city tour from Sukhbaatar Square, the heart of the capital, where you will visit the Government Palace and the statue of Chinggis Khaan. Afterward, we will continue to Gandantegchinlen Monastery to explore Mongolia’s Buddhist cultural heritage.
At noon, you will have the opportunity to taste traditional Mongolian cuisine, including buuz (steamed dumplings) and khuushuur (fried meat pastries), at restaurants along the central road.
Continuing the tour, we will visit the National Museum of Mongolia to gain a brief insight into the history and culture of the nomadic people.
In the afternoon, we will stop by the Gobi Cashmere Store to explore Mongolian cashmere products. As evening falls, we will visit Zaisan Hill and enjoy the spectacular view of Ulaanbaatar’s illuminated cityscape, bringing the day to a memorable close.
09:30 – Start of the Journey:
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel and depart for Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, one of Mongolia’s most famous and beautiful natural destinations.
Along the way – Ovoo Worship Tradition:
We will stop at a traditional ovoo, a sacred stone cairn that represents Mongolian people’s respect and spiritual connection with nature. You will learn about the rituals and customs associated with this tradition and participate in a symbolic ceremony to refresh your spirit.
Lunch:
We will enjoy lunch at a tourist camp located in a breathtaking natural valley surrounded by beautiful landscapes.
Turtle Rock:
We will visit Turtle Rock, one of Terelj’s most iconic natural formations, and take memorable photographs beside this unique landmark.
Aryabal Meditation Temple:
We will hike up to the peaceful Aryabal Meditation Temple, surrounded by magnificent rock formations and mountains, where you can experience tranquility and spiritual relaxation.
Experience Nomadic Lifestyle:
We will visit a local herding family and learn about the hospitality, daily lifestyle, and traditions of Mongolian nomads. You will also have the opportunity to taste fresh traditional dairy products.
Free Time:
After the planned activities, you will have the opportunity to ride horses and explore the beautiful surrounding nature.
Dinner and Overnight Stay:
The evening will be spent relaxing and staying at the tourist camp.
Breakfast:
After a relaxing morning and breakfast, we will depart for the Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, home to the tallest equestrian statue in the world.
Historical Landmark:
We will explore the museum inside the impressive 40-meter-high statue complex and enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape from the viewing platform located on the horse’s mane.
Lunch:
We will have lunch at the restaurant located within the complex.
Kazakh Cultural Experience – Visit to a Kazakh Family:
On the way back, we will visit a Kazakh family living in Nalaikh District. You will discover the unique culture of the Kazakh people, their warm traditional ger decorated with beautifully handmade wall carpets, and experience their genuine hospitality and customs.
Return to Ulaanbaatar:
We will return to the city and transfer you back to your hotel at approximately 18:00, marking the end of the journey.
